  • Make an inventory as you go, this will help you find things in the future
  • Put the heaviest things on the bottom (this will help create a more stable base
  • Don’t put too many heavy things in one box as this will make it more difficult to lift and carry
  • Distribute weight evenly throughout your chock-a-box as this will make it more stable
  • Boxes are your friend as they protect your valuables and make it easier for you to move items. Try and fill each box completely and pad out spaces with packing paper or news paper.
  • Label all your boxes on all sides so you can see what’s in them no matter where they sit
  • Protext any metal items you pack by wiping them first with an oily rag to protect them from rust
  • Pack fragile items in paper, bubble wrap and/or foam and preferably in labelled boxes with dividers – these have been specially designed for them

  • Drain any water from appliances before storing
  • Tape down all moving parts
  • Store any light items inside appliances with padding
  • Prop your fridge and freezer doors ajar to prevent mildew
  • Use original packaging whenever possible for electrical appliances. If you don’t have the original packaging, get adequate size boxes and pack with bubble wrap and foam
  • Label cords and small components so you know which appliance they belong to
  • Port-a-robes are great for storing clothing. Place any shoes and folded items at the bottom of the box.
